CBS's How I Met Your Mother has been adored by fans and critics alike, with its excellent writing, hilarious jokes, and an ensemble cast consisting of some of the most talented names in Hollywood. The series is often compared to Friendsbecause it follows Ted Mosby and his group of 20-something weird, lovable friends as they try to make their way through love and life in New York City.

Ted does eventually find the Mother (after 9 whole seasons, no less), but he did date a lot of girls in between. A lot of girls. 31, in fact. While the show does show some things that are downright weird, this was too high a number for the supposedly sweet, happy-go-lucky Ted. So, here are 5 girls Ted dated that fans loved, and 5 fans didn't care much for.
10 Loved - Victoria
Perhaps one of the best of Ted's love interests, Victoria was actually the perfect girl for Ted. Ted first starts dating her in season 1 before she moves to Germany and they try long distance. However, Ted ends up cheating on her with Robin.

Victoria finally shows up in the season 7 finale, running away from her wedding. They start dating again in season 8 and Ted even proposes to her, but Victoria tells Ted she can only say yes if he stops being friends with Robin, and they break up.
9 Hated - Blah Blah
In the season 3 episode, "How I Met Everyone Else", Ted tells his kids about the time he was dating a woman whose name he can't recall, so he calls her Blah Blah (it is revealed her real name is Carol in the season 9 episode, "Gary Blauman").
Besides being extremely jealous of Robin, she was quite psychotic (according to Barney, she was on the wrong side of the Hot-Crazy Scale), as she was very sensitive about having met Ted online while playing the MMORPG World of Warcraft.
8 Loved - Robin
The girl Ted wanted to be with since the first episode, the one he ended up with, Robin is one of the most important characters of the show. One could say she's the reason the show exists in the first place. The writers pulled off a great twist when they revealed she was "Aunt Robin" at the end of the Pilot episode.

From dating to breaking up, Ted almost marrying Stella, Ted revealing he still loved her, Robin getting married to Barney and ending up divorced, these two have a long, complex relationship that ended up perhaps not being well-received by fans, but sweet nonetheless.
7 Hated - Karen
One of the worst characters in the show itself, Karen was Ted's on-again-off-again college girlfriend who everyone in the gang hated. She was very pretentious and annoying, not to mention she had cheated on Ted many times.
In "Front Porch", Ted finally breaks up with her once and for all, upon realizing that she wasn't right for him and hated his friends. In his words, "It doesn't matter what my friends think of my girlfriend, but it matters what my girlfriend thinks of my friends."
6 Loved - Trudy
Trudy was first seen in the season 1 episode, "The Pineapple Incident". She meets Ted in the bar and they spend the night together, which Ted has no recollection of. Oh, and there was a pineapple involved, for reasons unknown.

Trudy was a funny character, who fans wanted to see more of. She made another appearance in "The Third Wheel" where she wanted to sleep with Ted with another woman, and it's unknown whether he did or not (Some stories you tell, some you don't).
5 Hated - Jeanette
Revealed to be his last serious girlfriend, Ted's worst girlfriend was Jeanette, who was literally crazy. The seemingly cute story of how Ted and Jeanette met was just an explanation of how psychotic she was, from stalking Ted to starting a fire.
Their break up was even crazier, with her locking herself in Ted's apartment and breaking things and throwing them out the window, such as destroying the Playbook. Perhaps the worst thing she did was destroying Ted's red cowboy boots (which he totally pulled off).
4 Loved - Natalie
Seen in "Return of the Shirt" all the way back in season 1, Natalie was one of Ted's love interests. However, Ted treats her like crap, when he breaks up with her. On her birthday. On the phone. During her surprise party.
While Natalie was a funny character and a great choice for Ted and definitely draws the short straw when she dates Ted, he breaks up with her again. On her birthday. Again. She kicks him in the face, which was quite justified.
3 Hated - Zoey
One of the biggest mistakes Ted made was dating Zoey. He went from falling for her to hating her to liking her to dating her, before breaking up because he was out to get his career. She was literally plotting against Ted and wanted to ruin his job, so not a great choice.

In the season 9 episode, "Gary Blauman" it's revealed that in the future she's still protesting one thing or the other, and is a nuisance more than a hindrance.
2 Loved - Tracy McConnell
While the Mother's character should have been explored more than it had, fans fell in love with Tracy McConnell in season 9. She was just so perfect, so right, for Ted, and fans anxiously waited for them to meet.

Tracy was the best thing to happen to Ted, and her death on the show was met with much backlash, with fans wanting them to be together happily ever after, instead of Ted going after Robin.
1 Hated - Stella
When Stella was first introduced back in season 4, she was extremely sweet, kind, and funny, and Ted fell in love with her and asked her to marry him. She says yes, and on the day of the wedding, leaves him at the altar for her ex-husband. Not only that but when she and Tony have a fight, she runs to ask Ted to talk to Tony.
When Tony makes "The Wedding Bride", a movie about Ted and Stella that paints Ted as the villain, she does nothing to stop Tony from doing so. She was definitely the worst girlfriends, even character, in the show.
