Protect Yourself From Tech Support Scams

Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number.

That's all hogwash.

The reason hotmail.com accounts are receiving so much spam email is because microsoft has turned off filtering for not paid accounts. They've done this in an effort to force users to start paying the monthly fee for premium services. IE, blocking spam.

The only way you are going to get spam free email is to change to a new service.

Hello,

On a daily basis I can receive 6+ emails from a very annoying and persistent network of Scammers who specialise in porn essentially, under the guise of some ' Adult Dating ' nonsense.

I report & block them all, including their IP's - having found this information via the Message Source option, I also block these with Windows Firewall Advanced Security . . . . but there's a never ending stream, which is getting me down.

I don't want to change my email account, is it not possible for Microsoft to use a better filtering system?

Also are any measures actually taken when I report these emails as there's a very clear and consistent pattern to them.

Thank you.

is that ALL you get LOL.

I easily get 20-200 spam/scam emails daily and have to try and block (only 1024 blockable? terrible crud that is)
MSFT response is "there is nothing we can do about it"

yet you cannot "hide" the junk folder nor can you block infinite number of spam/scam nor can you unsub from the vast majority WHICH IS LAW in North America.

MSFT needs to do better at identifying spam/scam before it ever gets to anyones inbox.

with my Gmail and Yahoo I have 1/1000th the fraction (possibly even less) that I ever see in my junk folder and very very rarely in inbox yet for some reason with hotmail I see it everyday without fail and no amount of blocking/reporting prevents it, nor does the filters
if it were not next to impossible to do, all my email would go ONLY to Gmail which is superior to what hotmail/outlook are (which is a crying shame) because technically everything MSFT is a "paid product" where they data mine for revenue and/or sell the software/apps as well.

I just really do not understand MSFT the last 10 years or so, Win 8/8.1/10 have all been various levels of disaster that could have easily been avoided, they want everyone on Windows 10 (which is fine) but it seems they also could not be bothered keeping customers (new and old) happy with the services they basically shove down your throat heavily hinting one should use them and/or making it impossible to remove if you never ever want to use them (such as Cortana)
