There are many times on Gilmore Girls when fans feel like Lorelai acts exactly as they would. But there are just as many moments when Lorelai makes a strange decision or just didn't make a lot of sense.

Many season one episodes featured great scenes of Rory and Dean. When Rory started dating her first boyfriend, Lorelai was sometimes out of the loop.
It was only logical that Rory would be nervous about her first kiss and not want to talk to her mom right away, but Lorelai felt left out. Lorelai found that she was the odd person out once again at the end of season five when Rory stole a yacht and her grandparents supported her. Fans could relate to Lorelai when she didn't feel like Rory was sharing enough with her. Everyone has felt left out, whether a pal didn't invite them to a party or a friendship naturally faded over time. Mother/daughter relationships can also be tough and even though these two characters were so close, they did have some conflict.
9 Didn't: When She Lied Or Hid Things From Her Mom
It's true that Emily had trouble relating to her daughter, but once the girls started attending dinners on Friday evenings at the Gilmore household, Emily tried really hard. She would have done anything to be close with her daughter and get those lost years back.
Lorelai often lied to Emily or kept important things from her, and it was never easy to relate to Lorelai when she did this. She was definitely in the wrong because it's not okay to get engaged and hide it from close family members. Lorelai would have argued that her mother hurt her, but Lorelai never seemed to move on from the past.
8 Related: When She Went On Bad Dates
From the double date with awkward and harsh Rune in season one to any time her parents tried to set her up, Lorelai was never a stranger to bad dates.

Lorelai was always super relatable when she found herself spending an evening with someone she couldn't get along with. There is nothing worse than being stuck having dinner or drinks with someone who is mean-spirited, and in Lorelai's case, people don't always understand or like her quirky sense of humor. Lorelai might have had a grand love story with Luke but when she was single, it was really tough for her.
7 Didn't: When She Was Impulsive Or Didn't Plan Ahead
Season one of Gilmore Girls had some weird moments and it was so awkward watching Lorelai wear a tie-dyed t-shirt, cowboy boots, and jean shorts for Rory's very first day at Chilton.
Fans couldn't relate to Lorelai when she was impulsive and when she didn't think carefully enough about what she had to do next. In the case of her Chilton fashion disaster, there must have been something else that she could have grabbed and put on, and she could have easily had a few options ready. When Lorelai wasn't allowed to attend her parents' Christmas party, she could have apologized, but her impulsive and rash personality meant that she had to sit that one out.
6 Related: When She Would Do Anything For Rory
Lorelai was always an amazing mom and while this could be attributed to her status as a cool person, she really did try to make her daughter's life a good one.
Lorelai would truly do anything for Rory, from studying with her to asking her parents for the cash to send her to a fancy private school, and that was so relatable. Everyone has someone they feel that strongly about, from a child, parent, another family member, partner, or friend.
5 Didn't: When She Ignored How Luke Felt About Her
Fans could tell that Luke had a huge crush on Lorelai as he helped her out when she was in a bind, like when she needed ice for Rory's birthday party in season one. Lorelai was pretty dense about this, though.

Sookie told Lorelai that Luke had feelings for her and said, "Don't you understand that Luke is so into you?" She continued, "He has had to watch you go from one guy to another, and then the engagement, and then the engagement was off, and patiently he's waited, and now in walks this kid and he says 'My God, will she date anyone else in the world before she'll date me?'" Lorelai shrugged this off, and it's hard to relate to someone who wouldn't admit that she liked someone and just start dating them. She wanted to settle down and she knew that Luke was a safe and wonderful person to be with.
4 Related: When Luke Broke Her Heart
Luke broke Lorelai's heart a few times: when he was upset about Christopher (David Sutcliffe) and when he didn't want to get married because he was getting to know his smart but complicated daughter April Nardini.
Fans could relate to Lorelai whenever she was dealing with heartbreak, especially since she was so in love with Luke. She thought he was her person and that they were on the same page, but he had his own demons and it took him a long time to get over them. Anyone who has been through a bad break-up or realized that their partner was hiding something from them can relate to Lorelai's pain.
3 Didn't: When She Wouldn't Get Involved With Chilton
Rory was often painfully shy and it made sense that she would be nervous about getting involved with her new school, although she did need some extracurriculars for her college applications.
It was odd when Lorelai didn't want to help out at Chilton. While she always felt uncomfortable around wealthy people, that was no excuse, as she should have understood that getting even a little bit involved at her daughter's school was a parenting rite of passage.
2 Related: When Christopher Treated Her Badly
Lorelai had an interesting romance with Max and after she decided to call the wedding off, she was definitely in a bit of a dating rut. Rory's father Christopher was one of Lorelai's major love interests, and while he shared his feelings for her at various times throughout the series, he didn't always treat her well.

After having sex with Lorelai, Christopher found out that his girlfriend Sherry was expecting his baby, and he decided to stay with her. Christopher was always swooping in and pretending that he would be with Lorelai but it didn't work out. Viewers can relate to Lorelai here, as many people have dated someone who is charming yet unreliable, which is a tricky combination.
1 Didn't: When She Complained About Little Things
After Luke and Lorelai began seeing each other in the fifth season, Lorelai was upset that eating her morning meal at Luke's diner didn't feel the same now that she was no longer just a friend and customer.
It's true that Lorelai took her coffee seriously but was this really such a big deal? Lorelai had a tendency to complain about little things that didn't really matter that much, and it was hard for fans to relate to her when she became so negative. She could still eat at Luke's diner whenever she wanted.
