Confessions of a Delhi girl who tried Tinder in Mumbai
When you're a single girl in the city, you have two choices - you can either keep waiting for the 'right guy' to come along, or, you can go out there and find him yourself.
Especially if you're in a new city, and itching to change your relationship status.
Confessions of Delhi girl using Tinder
A single girl who finally got on a dating app
"My story is quite different from most others, I'm sure. I mean, I'm a fairly new entrant into the world of these dating apps - I always thought of myself as a bit old-school, someone who preferred meeting new people in person rather than through an app."
"What finally convinced me? A cheating ex-boyfriend. I was with him for 2 years and just when I was about to start thinking of our future together, I found out he was hooking up with other women while traveling for work. That's when I first understood what Tinder could do - it's made getting laid so easy and convenient, you never know when someone's cheating on you!"
"My friends kept pushing me to go out and meet new people, but they didn't know where. That's when I first thought about joining Tinder. I was done with my friends constantly urging me, and as a way to get over my break-up, I wanted to do the exact same thing he did - go to another city and meet someone through Tinder."
What is it like to use Tinder for the first time as a newly single girl?
"I had no clue about Tinder when I first got on it. All I knew was that you had to swipe left and right, but how does one talk to someone you've never met, just on the basis of their pictures? It was quite bizarre at first, to be honest."
"Also, why do men start flirting so soon? Like, we've not even met yet - calm down, dude. How about having a conversation on chat and talking about common interests first? We can meet for a coffee/drink and see where it goes."
"And the moment they find out you've just had a break-up, they're extremely curious to know why. As if I'm going to start sharing details with a random person on Tinder. Who even gives these men such ideas?"
Tinder in Delhi
"When you go out somewhere in Delhi, you can be completely sure that atleast 5 random men will check you out. Which is why I was used to a certain amount of attention - what I didn't know was things were far crazier on Tinder. I was getting 'matched' with every guy I liked - my self confidence skyrocketed overnight!"
"The funniest bit, however, is how pretty much every profile reads the same. It's like there's a memo, and everyone's adhering to it. Who told these guys that writing travel as their hobby makes them cool? Or calling themselves 'sapiosexual' will impress a girl? It's all a lie and we, women, know it. Do these men even know the meaning of 'sapiosexual'?"
"As a girl, using Tinder is Delhi is the ultimate boost of confidence you can get - how do you not feel amazing when there are atleast a dozen guys dying to date you every single day, right? Whenever you're feeling low, just get on the app. If the matches don't lift your spirits, the desperation of these men will make you laugh for sure."

Delhi girl using Tinder in Mumbai
"I was visiting Mumbai for a friend's wedding, and something inside me told me that this would be the perfect city to use Tinder. Haven't we all heard about how safe the city is for women? And just how cool everyone is in Mumbai."
"As I had expected, the men in Mumbai weren't anything like those in Delhi. They weren't just interested in having sex. I mean, yes, some were but a lot of them actually wanted to get to know me. Which was such a relief because I had almost given up on the idea that Tinder could ever have men who aren't just looking for some action."
"I made a rule - I didn't tell anyone that I was in Mumbai only for a few days. I didn't want the genuine ones to go away simply because I wasn't going to be in the city for a long time. You know what I'm saying? A man's intention could easily change once he knows the girl isn't available for more than just a couple of days."
"One of the first guys I matched with, and the first one I actually met, happened to be a serial Tinder dater. He'd been on the app for over 3 years and routinely went out with multiple women. How did I find this out? Well, he actually told me. He was so proud of it - who knew men could be so honest too? Needless to say, I excused myself from there."
"The second guy was an aspiring actor - how can you not meet one in Mumbai, after all. He hailed from a small town and was working in a PR agency to make money on the side. For some reason, he was extremely excited after finding out I was from Delhi. When I asked him the reason, all he said was that he found Delhi girls very hot. We did hook up though - he was quite good-looking."
"The third one was a complete creep. He claimed to be a doctor working in the Lilavati Hospital, but I don't believe it. He was constantly staring at breasts - I was so uncomfortable the whole time. All this talk about Mumbai men being less lecherous than their Delhi counterparts isn't entirely true, clearly."

Delhi vs Mumbai: What's the Tinder verdict?
"Let's get one thing straight - Delhi men are far better looking. You could say that it's just my type, but men in Mumbai aren't blessed in the looks department. Where they score better than the Delhi ones is their charm and conversational skills though. They know how to talk to a woman, and that always makes a lot of difference. I've never had good conversations on Tinder in Delhi - it's just about sex, or on its way to becoming about sex."
"The next time I'm in Mumbai, I'm using Tinder for sure. An evening of great conversations, and great sex - what's not to like?"
