Now I’m going to tell you what’s really going on at the Fat Lamb. The old man (that’s me) has finally lost it, or so the young men (the ones who are doing all this new interweb stuff) would have you believe. I’ve watched bemused as the so called “social media” has taken over the world, and have now finally thrown my hands in the air and called for help to cope with it all. Face book, blogs, search engine optimisation, booking channels, interactive web sites, on line booking systems; all very necessary I’m sure, but quite frankly as alien to me as being spoken to in Ancient Egyptian.

The “old ways” (advertising in newspapers, magazines, that sort of thing) simply don’t work the way they used to any more, so I have handed over all responsibility for such things to the next generation.

Not that I haven’t tried in the past, mind. I was persuaded to have a blog page incorporated into our old web-site, and I managed two entries in three years – there was a third one, but such is my mastery of all things computerised I couldn’t get it to download. Based on this evidence I think it best, therefore, that from now on all things digital will be dealt with by a junior Bonsall under my careful supervision and advice – when they let me.

In the meantime, it’s not just the computerised stuff that has been getting an overhaul. After developing two other Hotels in the past few years, the poor old Fat Lamb was beginning to look quite neglected, so, whilst the boys play with the computers, I have been giving her a comprehensive face lift to set things right. A complete refurbishment of the bedrooms is well underway, with new furniture, décor and bathrooms; new power showers all round, fresh wall tiling, improved lighting and new tiled floors. Our first floor is now complete and we have begun on the ground floor, and after that (if I survive) I might treat myself to a day off before we overhaul the public areas.

All this work is intended to bring the amenity level up while maintaining the same relaxed atmosphere and traditional feel, so don’t worry no pool tables or juke box or anything. We’ll get some photos up as soon as we can, watch this space.
