Corrrrrr… you’re putting me on the spot here, okay.
Things that I have trouble with: organic ways to introduce the concepts and issues into conversations.
You don’t want to be “Larry the Trans panic guy”.
Equally - straight guys are uniquely untroubled by the current Trans ideology because it can be safely discounted as “queers and chicks bullshit”, so its astoundingly rare that you will ever have an opportunity to present your case in a natural way
Recently I’ve been able to use JK Rowling, and Pride.
JK Rowling is easy, someone asked me what I thought about her being transphobic, I made a VERY SPECIFIC FACE, and asked “have you read her statement? It’s on her website…”
Answer came back “yeah, didn’t get what the fuss was about? What did she say that’s transphobic?”
Huge shrug gesture “fuck knows mate, have you seen the abuse she’s been getting on Twitter?” Which then serves as a decent jumping off point to talk about how it’s just an excuse for men to abuse women - all the dick pics getting sent to her is also a very straightforward way to talk about a lot of the guys involved in this have no real interest in SRS or even hormone therapy in a lot of cases, which leads to AGP and “transbians”.
Pride was a good opportunity as well, I work for a company that makes a big deal out of Pride, last year when people asked me if I was gliding anything for pride, I kind of shrugged and said I wasn’t sure if I was going to bother, how I had lesbians friends who didn’t feel supported or welcomed by orgs like stonewall, and pointed people towards the excesses of transbians encroaching and colonising Lesbian spaces, and the explicit homophobia of pressuring lesbians to accept Male sex partners.
I’m lucky enough to deal with fairly straightforward lads at work who have a good sense of fair play and the concept of “ladydick” wasn’t exactly well received.
I’m not going to claim I’ve converted them to the cause, I don’t think they really get the scale of the issue, but I’m pretty confident they’re a lot more suspicious of terms like “TERF” now, and they’re a lot more likely to investigate if they see something has been declared “transphobic”.
(Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I had a day without the phone, it was lovely)
