Recollecting his ordeal, 35-year-old Patil said, “The crime took place on Monday after I went to meet my so-called date around 10.30 am in Kondhwa. First I was told to reach near a temple, after which the person, who called himself Krishna, took me to a one-room-kitchen flat on the third floor of a building in lane no 27 of Nagar in Kondhwa.”
He added, “After a while as we got intimate, he started clicking naked pictures of mine and began filming me. When I objected, he called two of his friends who were already present in the apartment and threatened to hurt me with a knife and sickle and demanded Rs 40,000 from me.”
“Even after I refused to pay up, they forced me to use a money transfer app and transferred Rs 10,000 to their account. Only after I made the transaction did they let me leave the house. I immediately went to Kondhwa police station and lodged a complaint,” shared Patil.
While one of the two other people involved in the act remains unidentified, Patil informed that one among them is called Ishwar.
A resident of , who is into the transport business, sought help from an LGBTQIA activist during the legal process of filing a formal complaint regarding the whole episode.
Shyam Konnur, the activist in question, added, “Such cases of coercing victims into giving money after capturing their images in a compromising state have happened earlier as well. As part of the modus operandi, offenders are on a lookout for vulnerable members of such minority communities. Not showing one’s vulnerable side on a dating app is the only way one can avoid such incidents from happening. Guilty parties take advantage of the fact that community members often shy away from reporting such crimes.”
Vinayak Gaikwad, police inspector attached to Kondhwa PS, said, “We have filed a case under sections 393 (punishment for robbery), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the (IPC). We have also taken the accused under custody and probing the matter further.”
