I Spent A Year Dating Guys Over Six Feet And Here’s What It Was Like
After a long, toxic relationship with a guy who was a total waste of my time, I decided to have some fun with dating and only go out with dudes who had my dream guy qualities. For an entire year, I only dated guys who were over six feet tall and while I felt kind of silly a lot of the time, it was also kinda fun.
Men over six feet tall are wildly attractive.
The sight of a super tall man makes me weak. They stand out in a crowd; you kind of can’t miss them considering they tower over the general population. For me, tall men just have an edge over the competition and I find myself attracted to height first and foremost. There’s a kind of instinctual, animalistic attraction there and while I can’t put my finger on why I prefer them, I can say that my year of dating them was one of the hottest ever.
It’s crazy how many hot, tall guys you can find online.
The prevalence of dating apps these days means that you have your choice of all kinds of men; no matter what your preferences are, you can find plenty of guys who will fit the description. As a newly single girl, I was overwhelmed at the possibility and variety. I swiped my way through literally dozens of tall, handsome men and was shocked at how many of them there were. Within a couple of weeks as a single woman, I was dating giant men.
Turns out, tall dudes love to brag about their height.
Most tall men post their height in their bios to show off, which made my dating life a lot easier at times. However, sometimes guys didn’t mention how tall they were at all, so I’d look at pictures of them standing with their friends to gauge their size. For the times when it was just too hard to figure out, my friends came in for the final judgment call, which saved me from accidentally dating a short guy. That being said, it was rarely ever a problem since the vertically blessed were available in excess.
I rocked my highest heels on dates with them.
Hell, why not? I had a closet full of stilettos that I only wore on special occasions so I wouldn’t appear out of place. With a super tall guy, I had an excuse to break them out and feel like a supermodel. I used to worry about meeting up with a guy and making him seem like a dwarf in comparison, but that was a non-issue here and it felt amazing.
Everyone stares at you like you’re some kind of power couple.
People of above-average height get stared at on the regular, and doubly so if they’re attractive. With my tall men and my high heels, I noticed lots of looks from people when we spent nights out on the town. Usually I would feel self-conscious about this and wonder what they were thinking about us, but I didn’t when I was with a tall guy. I knew we looked great.
Tall men are confident and it’s really sexy.
There is a dominance that tall men have over their shorter counterparts. I always see tall men as secure, proud, and unafraid. There’s a self-assurance about them that’s really irresistible and I loved dating guys with these qualities. Really tall guys usually have this quiet self-assuredness about them. They know they’re hot and they use it to their advantage. Of course, this also means there were several liars, players, and generally toxic jerks over six feet tall too since height doesn’t discriminate against how big of a douchebag you are.
They make the best huggers and cuddlers.
Hello, big spoons! Tall men with the lanky limbs are made for hugs. You’ll be nestled into their great big stature. There is something about being overpowered by a huge guy that just feels really good.
Sex can get awkward.
I wasn’t prepared for this side effect of dating men a foot taller than me. Some sex positions are just awkward and many adjustments need to be made. I’d be positioning yourself higher up on furniture just so he could be level with me. Maneuvering with pillows and sometimes just giving up and moving onto a position that’s a little less back-breaking are a must. Finding what works can be a bit clumsy at first, but I sure had fun trying to make it work.
I realized my preference doesn’t make me vain.
According to some studies, the chance of a man marrying a taller woman is about one percent, so I know I’m not the only one with height preferences! During my time spent swiping through Tinder, I noticed plenty of men stating they are looking for small, petite women. One even mentioned that any girl who doesn’t look good in a bikini shouldn’t even bother messaging him. We all have preferences when looking for a partner but for some reason, I feel like women get shamed for looking for this way more. Screw that.
In the end, a 5’10” tall man stole my heart.
My little experiment in dating super tall guys was awesome. At the end of it all, no matter how tall the guy is, the most important thing is a guy who treats you right. For me, that ended up being a guy who was just a little shorter than I’d like but who’s more amazing than I could have ever hoped for.
