Historically the norm may have been older men dating younger women, but thanks to the likes of Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Demi Moore and Mariah Carey, suddenly it seems a lot more fashionable for the ladies to be dating someone a few years younger than them too.

Not that we ever had any doubts.

With more and more women following their hearts and doing whatever the heck they want in terms of their dating lives, it seems as though there are more reasons than ever to go for a younger guy. And now, thanks to several new studies, science seems to be behind it too.

1. You’re more likely to experience career success

One of the newest studies on the subject gives us the most hope: women who date younger men are often also linked to a higher success rate in their professional lives. According to dating website Toyboy Warehouse, 50 per cent of women dating younger men had managerial jobs. Perhaps there’s something to being more open about what you want after all.

2. It could be better for your fertility

It’s long seemed unfair that a woman has to contend with their biological clocks on a scale that men don’t. But new research is beginning to indicate that when it comes to fertility, older women in relationships with younger men may have a better shot at conceiving, either naturally or with the help of a fertility doctor.

3. You could just experience plain old satisfaction

Mick Jagger might not have figured it out, but according to a study published in the 2008 Journal Psychology of Women Quarterly, women who were a decade or older than their partners were more satisfied and committed to their relationships than their female counterparts who were in a relationship with someone closer to their own age.

4. You’ll probably be hanging out at your place

Thanks to the rising cost of housing, schooling and overall life, more and more Canadians are waiting to move out of their parents houses. And in a StatsCan report, it seems as though men are more likely to continue living out a bachelor lifestyle into their 30s than women. While it’s probably a given that you don’t want to be hanging out at his parents’ house, dating a younger man with roommates or a starter pad means that he’ll probably be kosher with spending more time at your place. Meaning more homely comforts for you — and control of the remote.

5. They’re known to last longer

No, we’re not talking about in bed, we’re talking about the actual relationships themselves. Although there used to be a certain stigma attached to age-gap relationships and their longevity, studies are now proving that on average, a relationship between an older woman and younger man lasts roughly two years.

6. Then there’s the fact that they last longer

Okay, so having more stamina in bed is a good reason to date a younger guy too. According to a poll by Prevention Magazine, at least 29 per cent of women reported that their main reason for choosing someone their junior was because he had more energy and stamina. That translates outside of the bedroom too, when it comes to nights out on the town and wanting to go out on weekends.

7. Then there’s the looks

That same poll from Prevention also asked survey respondents whether younger men were better looking than their aging counterparts. In a non-shocking discovery, 37 per cent of women said that good looks were a main factor in why they choose to date younger men. Well, we suppose not everyone can age like George Clooney.

8. They’re more fun

Another reason to go younger? You could find yourself having more fun. Think random pizza runs, getting in on the newest band before they become Top 40 material or planning fun dates for the two of you on a more spontaneous level. According to some, younger men have less responsibilities and therefore aren’t always stressed out about work, family or other life events. As a result, they’re way more willing to live their lives to the fullest.

9. They’re more into you

This would be one of the more important reasons, would it not? According to research, one of the main reasons younger men go for older women is because they’re more accomplished, established and confident. They have their own lives, interests and hobbies, which means less time arguing about spending every waking hour together. Also younger men are also slightly in awe of older women. After all, they definitely seem to know what they want.
