Looking to find love in the City of Brotherly Love, but sick of dating apps? Though it can be tough out there for a singleton, you shouldn't worry. Your new neighbors aren't that shy, especially once you start dancing. Here are some great ways to meet someone special, and make Philly's new motto simply The City of Love.
Go salsa dancing.
Philadelphia's most popular salsa club, Brasil's Nightclub, hosts latin dancing for just $5. Singles (or couples, though you will have to split up during the lesson) can go for a free one-hour class with Philly's top instructors. Just show up in proper attire (men: no boots, no hats) and you will rotate down a line of partners while you both practice your routine. Wednesdays are for beginners.
Delicious and hip by day, Lucha Cartel salsa lessons every Tuesday night at Local legend Michael Andino teaches a class in the same manner as Brasil's, and the spot serves $5 margaritas.
Try speed dating.
Philadelphia's main speed dating event, Philadelphia Speed Dating, happens around 10 times a month (always on weekends) and is divided age and sometimes a theme, such as people who have advanced degrees. The company also hosts singles parties. In addition, they have a 100-percent refund guarantee that if you don't like a single attendee, you will get a voucher to try again.
Philadelphia Speed Dating boasts that 98 percent of people who attend their events meet someone they would like to see again. Simply show up and put on a name tag. Ladies stay seated and men rotate every five to seven minutes for a quick conversation. Come early or stay late with your new friends at the bar. Pre-Dating has the same setup and averages one event per month, separated by age range.
Volunteer with pets.
Having a pet is a great way to meet people. Many Philadelphians swear that having a dog and taking their pup for a walk or to the dog park is how they met their significant other. You can also volunteer at a pet rescue center. Walk dogs, bathe them or stay inside and manage social media. Whatever you do, you'll likely meet new people while volunteering. Saved Me is one place to volunteer, and they often need volunteers for adoption events.
Every month, the awesome soul dance spot Trestle Inn hosts a Pittie Party, and if you volunteer with the PSPCA, Saved Me or PAWS, you can help out.
Volunteer with other people.
The Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service has countless opportunities for volunteering, from reading at elementary schools to participating in benefit walks. There is no better way to tell your love story than by meeting while helping others. volunteering is also a great way to meet someone who has your religion in common.
Attend a meetup.
Meetup.com lists every event in the Philly area, and some feature singles themes, while others feature a general interest like a particular cuisine, cocktails, karaoke, , etc. Of course, there are folks who prowl Meetups.com specifically to meet potential matches, just as they do on other social sites like Internations.org (great for global types!). But that doesn't mean you shouldn't go, be friendly, and meet someone you might have a spark with.
Barhop at notoriously single-friendly bars.
Meat markets aren't necessarily a bad thing. After all, if you're single, it's better than going to a known place for couples, or to a spot where groups don't plan on socializing with anyone but themselves. Some nice bars for singles include: Barcade, McGillin's Olde Ale House, Jet Wine Bar, Lloyd Whisky Bar, Martha, Graffiti Bar, Mad River Bar and Grille and Tippling Place.
Go workout!
Take a kickboxing class, an African dance class or join a young, sexy gym like City Fitness. You might meet someone while getting toned, which is a win-win. Try opting for co-ed group activities like hiking or biking, too.
Consult a dating coach.
Try Philly's mentor, or the area's more upscale guru, Three Day Rule. Hire an international organization like It's Just Lunch to help you meet someone without dating online. Tawkify, which skews a little younger and is more affordable, also has coaches.
