Dating a girl with guy friends

Having close guy friends is great.

They're easy to talk to, you don't have to sugarcoat anything and you feel even more free to be your imperfect self around them.

But the one downfall of having a really, really close guy friend is everyone thinking you're dating. While it can be fun, it also has its struggles—which we're breaking down below!

1. You can never post a snap of just the two of you on Instagram, because every comment will point out how you look like the sweetest couple in the world.

2. And going out together is even worse. People for sure think you're on a romantic date, even if you're just doing something as simple as watching a movie together. Just because you're practically joined at the hip, doesn't mean you're seeing each other.

3. It's a nice compliment, until it just becomes annoying. The more people that assume, the more you have to reveal that you're just friends. It gets repetitive and slightly embarrassing.

4. Because so many other guys assume the two of you are dating, they never try to make a move. They believe you're in a happy relationship, so they don't even bother asking you out.

5. Not only that, but when they see how close you are to him, they fear that your potential relationship will never measure up. They're already comparing, which makes them feel as if they don't stand a chance.

6. For the most part, all the girls who assume you're dating know you're not. They only ask because they want to make sure he's single so they can make a move.

7. Even worse, after you tell them he's single and you're not together, they'll try to get you to set them up. They'll pester you about it through texts, calls and even social media. They believe that if they can get your approval, they'll have a better chance at winning him over, too.

8. The nonstop comments about you two looking like a cute couple can be really frustrating, even if they are just from strangers who don't know any better. You're not together, so stop assuming. Newsflash: Guys and girls can be just friends.

9. Part of the reason you find it so infuriating is because you're worried it'll ruin the friendship. You know that's not the case, but maybe they won't want to hang out with you as much to avoid the awkwardness.

10. Another side of it is that it hurts. There might've been feelings at one point and maybe you acted on them, but you both decided you were better off as friends. It still may sting hearing people talk about what a great couple you'd make knowing they don't feel the same.

11. Hearing all those comments also makes you question if you really could be a couple. Maybe you never told your friend how you feel, but are starting to think now's the time. If everyone else thinks it's real, why not make it a thing?

12. But then you start to worry about what'll happen if you break up and can't go back to being just friends. Is his friendship really that valuable, or is it your entire world? These are the questions that keep you up at night.

13. You decide it's best to remain friends, because you value their friendship more than anything else and never want to live a day without them. But you continue to have these debates with yourself daily, not making the situation any easier. Remember: If you're really meant to be a couple, life will somehow find a way to make that happen.
