The player takes on the role of Haruka Nanami, an aspiring composer who enters Saotome Academy, a performing arts school, where she meets numerous potential love connections, who are all competing to become the best pop idol!

8 Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time

Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time is an otome adventure game originally released on PlayStation back in 2000. You play as high school student Akane Motomiya, who along with her friends is sucked into another world, Kyō, and must fulfill her destiny to save the world from the Oni Clan. She is aided by eight men, called the Hachiyō, and her friends. Unlike the other visual novels, while this video game does include romancing a handsome Hachiyō, there are also role-playing elements, with parties taking down the Oni.

The game was a hit that developed into a franchise several games deep. The manga was 17 volumes and ran from 1999-2010.  The anime, which was originally broadcast from 2004-2005, ran 26 episodes, with two OVA tie-in episodes.

7 Amnesia

Amnesia is a visual novel released in 2011 on Playstation Portable, followed by the sequels Amnesia Later (2012) and Amnesia Crowd (2013), which were combined into Amnesia Later x Crowd V Edition (2014).

The Heroine in this game has amnesia, so the game focuses on her attempt to regain her memories and gain a beau at the same time. Each of her options is based on suits in a deck of cards, ranging from hearts, spades, clubs, diamonds, and jokers. What makes this game different is how each Amnesia storyline takes place in a parallel world. Plus you're followed around by Orion, who is invisible to everyone but the Heroine and helps as her own personal Jiminy Cricket. The anime aired in 2013, spanning 12 episodes.

6 Meiji Tokyo Renka

Unlike the previous games on this list, Meiji Tokyo Renka started out as a mobile game in 2011 before moving to the Playstation Portable in 2013. Players take on the role of Mei Ayazuki, who has traveled back in time. Mei lives with male historical figures from this era. While having lost her memories, she helps each of these historical figures with their own problems, using her ability to contact beings from the spiritual world.

Will Mei fall in love and decide to stay in the past forever? Or will she choose to return to her own world? In addition to sequels of the game, animated as well as live-action films and musical theater performances based on the game, there was an anime running for 12 episodes that broadcast in 2019.

5 Hakuouki

The first game in this historical fantasy series launched on PlayStation 2 in 2008. The game follows Chizuru Yukimura and her search for her father. On her way to Kyoto to find him, she is attacked but then saved by a special police force called Shinsengumi (our love interests for this game), who take her in for questioning. She allies herself with the group, who are trying to find her father because he created the Water of Life elixir. Unfortunately, this isn't a "good" Water of Life elixir, but instead turns people into beserker vampire types.

The anime was 12 episodes long and premiered in 2010, followed by a second season that same year. There were two different manga series, followed by a third series that served as a prequel called Hakuoki Reimeiroku in 2012. Afterward, two films were released, in 2013 and 2014.

4 Code: Realize

Full title Code: Realize − Guardian of Rebirth originally released in Japan for the PlayStation Vita in 2014. The anime series ran for 12 episodes in 2017. The main character of the game is Cardia, another girl who has lost her memories.

The twist in this game is that Cardia has a deadly poison that causes everything she touches to die, so she's been locked away in a mansion as the village's local "monster". When the English army comes for her, of course, that is when the thief Arsène Lupin (not that one) sweeps Cardia off her feet by saving her. The two search for her father and run into even more gorgeous gentlemen to romance in the game.

3 Norn9

Norn9 began as a PSP game released in 2013 and was ported to the PlayStation Vita the next year as Norn9: Var Commons. Another time travel plot-related game, the player begins as Sorata, an elementary schoolboy transported to the year 1919 into a ship called the Norn9 that flies in the sky. There he meets The Gifted, peers who have special abilities.

After playing the prologue/epilogue with Sorata, the player can choose between three different character routes, each with their own set of heroes. The first option is Koharu, who has dangerous fire powers she keeps hidden from others. The third option is Nanami, who was raised by a ninja clan and can erase people's memories. The anime came out ran for 12 episodes in 2016.

2 Prince of Stride: Alternative

The Prince of Stride otome game originally came out for PlayStation Vita in 2015, and it differs from the other games on this list by focusing on sports over romance. The story explores the fictional extreme sport of "stride" in which teams run relay races throughout a town.

This game specifically follows a team of six, the Hōnan Academy 's Stride club, running one such relay race.
