In 2014, a radio DJ (Adult Bom Sil) gets a letter from his first love that brings up almost forgotten memories from the past.
It had all happen 23 years ago, in 1991. Five friends get reunited in that summer: Bum Sil (a quiet boy), Soo Ok (a girl with an illness in her legs), San Dol (a marathoner), Gae Duk (upright guy with so little self-esteem) and Gil Ja (a girl with too much self-esteem lol).
This tight knit group in a small village protects each other, help each other and profit of their summer together. From catching chickens to eat, stealing boats, getting spanked together (all for one and one for all mentality), run for your life and never ending piggy backs.
So everyone is very protective of Soo Ok. This is not really explained at the beginning of the movie, except for a few hints. Bum Sil is her guardian angel, looking for her day and night, making sure she is well and taken care of. Soo Ok then becomes close to an apprentice doctor who came from Seoul and seduces her. Bum Sil doubts him, and his fears come true when he overhears a phone conversation. The free surgery that was promised to her is all but a fake dream.
We then learn she has a disease in one leg and it’s now spreading in the other. Her father’s consent is needed, but will not be obtained, and even if it does happen, success is not guaranteed. Bum Sil is heartbroken and hurt. His actions affects the group chemistry, the weight of this secret is heavy.
Bom Sil reveals his feelings to Soo Ok, who has a heart time accepting. She doesn’t want to be nobody’s burden. She wants to walk. The groups recent coldness, her mother’s death anniversary, the discovery of a fake surgery, her dad refusing the surgery and refusal to accept her mother’s death make her depress. She then kills herself.
The group reunites for her sake, defending her even after death and heart breaking, emotion-filled, cries, screams and sorrows follow. This group has a very special bond.
All this is remembered during Bom Sil 2014 radio broadcast. All throughout the movie you can see them in their adulthood and how it is still a present wound.
Do I recommend it: Yes.

Comments: I never cried so much in a movie. Do Kyungsoo is just an amazing actor. The group makes you laugh, cry, scream and go through a rollercoaster of emotions. Before watching this movie I had apprehensions because I heard it wasn’t that good. IT’S ALL LIES!!! The movie is very good. It is so realistic. I was left with the emotions for a while after the movie. A non-Kpoper watched it with me and her reaction was the same.
