This position can be based in our Boston office or remotely from NYC or LA.

Her Campus is seeking a full-time Assistant Culture Editor who will drive engagement and growth in timely news and entertainment coverage, special editorial features on identity and dating, and oversee all culture content (news, entertainment, sex and relationships) for hercampus.com. The Assistant Culture Editor will be responsible for developing content that highlights the causes and moments college women care about, thinking strategically with SEO-driven articles, all while creating original franchises, celebrity profiles, and conducting interviews for long-form features. The Assistant Culture Editor will oversee a team of remote news, entertainment, and dating writers and will work directly with the entire editorial team. 

The ideal candidate has editorial experience and their finger on the pulse of what’s trending for college women — what they want to read more of, what political issues they want to discuss, the memes they’re DM’ing to friends, the celebrities they’re obsessed with, and how they’re talking about things like gender, first-time sex, and dating apps. The ideal candidate will also understand the importance of inclusivity, be passionate about providing innovative and relatable content in a way that is feminist, funny, and genuine, and be deeply familiar with the Her Campus voice. You should be the type of person that’s sending HC articles to your friends, but also have feedback for how we can improve.

Responsibilities

• Assign and edit daily news and features relevant to news, entertainment, dating and identity
• Manage a team of college student writers
• Develop and execute an editorial content plan based on trends and reports
• Serve as an editorial lead on culture coverage — including celebrity-related programs and partnerships and attending and covering major events
• Liaise with publicists on exclusive opportunities
• Work with Assistant Social Editor, Video to conceptualize unique and engaging video content across platforms

• Bachelor’s degree
• 1-3 years of digital editorial experience
• Involvement in Her Campus during college preferred
• Superb writing and editing skills
• Rigorous attention to detail
• Ability to confidently attend and cover major events and secure and conduct high-profile interviews
• Excellent organizational and project management skills
• Ability to cover trending shows, premieres or breaking news outside of normal working hours, when necessary
• Capable of functioning autonomously and completing projects and tasks without close supervision
• Fluency with typical office technology and software; knowledge of AP Style; knowledge of Google Analytics
• Self-starter with go-getter attitude, positive and upbeat nature, and excellent work ethic who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty and is excited about working in a start-up environment
